CARINA RALFS Carina joined the team in the summer of 2008 as a Trainee Chartered Accountant, having achieved a First Class degree in Chemistry at the University of Bristol before completing a PhD in Laser Spectroscopy in 2006. This led to a role as an Environmental Consultant with Serco Technical and Assurance Services at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus before she decided on a career change to accountancy. Outside of work, Carina enjoys (?) early morning swimming before work with Wycombe District Swimming Club, walking and cooking. The rest of her free time is taken up with studying for the ICAEW qualification. |

PAUL SHEPHARD Paul graduated from the University of Surrey with a 2.2 degree in Accountancy in 1998. He joined E A Kench & Co in March 2003, following four years of working for two local accountancy practices. Paul’s main area of work is the preparation and audit of client accounts. Paul, an honest man, prefers to leave sporting activities to others but supports them as a dedicated armchair sports fanatic. He spends the remainder of his free time socialising with friends, watching American TV shows and reading. He currently lives in Binfield. |

MARK RING Mark joined us in 2005, as an Accounts Senior, thereby complementing the expanding Accounts and Audit team. He has added to his previous experience in Practice by working in industry over the previous few years but now feels that practice is more interesting and is happy to get back into a "proper" role. On the sports field, Mark enthusiastically plays football for his local team, FC Priestwood and also plays a strong round of golf. He too is an ardent supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, adding to the heated debate of football allegiances over the coffee machine. Mark has travelled extensively within Australia, starting at Cairns and following the Gold Coast down to Sydney. He has also toured around the United States, the Dominican Republic and within Europe. A modern man at heart, he does all the cooking at home. |

IVAN GREENWOOD Ivan joined us from school in 2009, having successfully completed his A Levels. Although he had secured a place at Leicester University to study Mathematics, he had already decided that, instead of following the traditional route of going to University, he would aim straight for the main prize of qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Having impressed when doing work experience with the firm in 2005 (as a result of which he decided that accountancy was the profession for him), Ivan was able to persuade the Directors to give him a chance, even though he clearly lacked the First Class degree which is normally a prerequisite for a Training Contract with us. Ivan is therefore spending 2 years studying for the Association of Accounting Technicians qualification and then a further 2 years completing a Fast Track Training Contract for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Whilst at college, Ivan contributed to the Henley College Rugby team, being a regular first team Winger and also representing the college at the Rosslyn Park Sevens tournament – the largest sevens tournament in Britain – in which the college finished in the top eight out of one hundred and ten teams. Ivan is currently training with the Henley Colts rugby team and looking forward to playing with them. |

HILARY REEVE Hilary graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Sanskrit - which she maintains is the perfect introduction to studying tax! She trained as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in Reading, working in the Personal Tax and Trust department, before joining E A Kench & Co in 1993. Although the majority of her time is spent dealing with personal taxation, as Directors’ Assistant, she is also involved with the full spectrum of the firm’s work through technical research on company secretarial matters, corporation tax, small charities, National Insurance Contributions and Value Added Tax. When she is not at work, she plays the flute and viola, enjoys chocolate tasting, and spends as much time as she can with her family. |

SANDRA GOBBETT Sandra started her working life in a bank, and then moved to the accounts department of the Wellcome Foundation. She then worked as a Learning Support Assistant and administrator in a school in Canterbury, helping children with dyslexia and related learning difficulties. On moving to Henley in November 2000, Sandra embarked on a new career as Tax Assistant at E A Kench & Co, completing Self Assessment Tax Returns and dealing with all aspects of personal taxation where she enjoys the daily challenges that the job presents. When relaxing, Sandra enjoys cruising in the family boat on the Thames – "It’s so peaceful", she says. She also likes gardening and cooking, and is renowned for the delicious chocolate cakes that she brings into the office. As an inveterate traveller she has in the past been on a world tour, taking the equivalent of three years' holiday allowance at once and visiting Hong Kong, Australia and San Francisco. |
